Two Types of Healing

Mar 17, 2021

John 15:7 (KJV)

7 If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you.

Jesus said that you can ask what you will and it shall be done. Not 'it might be done', but 'it shall be done'. So, according to this verse, if you will (or want to be healed), it shall be done for you.

1 Corinthians 12:9, 11 (ESV)

9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,
11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.

This verse tells us that the gifts of healings are only as “He” the Holy Spirit wills.

So which of these two passages are true? Well, they both are. Let me explain.

On the cross, Jesus took every sickness and disease known to mankind.

1 Peter 2:24 (ESV)

24 He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.

By Jesus' wounds, you have been healed.

Psalm 103:1–3 (ESV)

1 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name!
2 Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits,
3 who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases,

At the same time, He took all your sins (on the cross), He also took all your diseases.

Some people say if that is true, why don't you go to the hospital and heal everybody because Jesus healed everybody. They incorrectly assume that Jesus healed everybody in His path, but that's not true.

There were times that Jesus healed everyone, but there were also times when He didn't.

There are two types of healings. Let's look into the first type of healing: the gifts of healings.

1 Corinthians 12:9 (ESV)

9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,

The gifts of healings only operate as the Spirit of God wills.

When the gifts of healings are in operation, only the person or people who the Holy Spirit singles out will be healed.

For example, at the pool of Bethesda (John 5:1-17), He healed only one person among five porches full of sick people. He healed one man and left everyone else sick.

Why did He leave the others sick? It is because the gifts of healing were in operation. Jesus was directed by the Spirit of God to heal only one man.

It is God's will to heal everybody. However, we don't have a promise that we can be healed through gifts of healings, because we don't know if it's God's will to heal us that way. We do know that it is God's will to heal us, but we don't know whether or not God wants to heal us THAT WAY.

God uses some people in gifts of healings. We can't turn that gift on and off whenever we want to; it operates as the Spirit wills. That does not mean that it isn't God's will to heal us; just not that way.

Now let's look into the second type of healing; healing by faith. Everyone can receive their healing by this method. This is healing by faith in what Jesus did for us on the cross.
