Chillin’ With God PT. 1

Hallelujah. I should just let you go because they just preached my message today. Wow. Hallelujah. I love how the spirit of God flows, and that's a perfect song for what I'm gonna be sharing. Some of you may have heard me do this or saw me do this before. Mark 1124 says whatever things you ask, one translation says, whatever you desire when you pray.

Believe you receive them and you shall have them.

So you really only have to ask once and then thank you after that. So if you believe you receive at the time that you pray, said, when you pray, believe, and then it's done. It's a done deal. Tre asked me for my Bible. [00:01:00] He asked in case you didn't hear me. Asked for a Bible, couldn't ask me for my Bible again.

Okay. He asked again a second time. Why would he ask? That's silly, right? Because why? That's what happens in the spirit when you pray. Amen. Alright. Now to be continued. Y'all can be seated 'cause I'm gonna share something with you about unbelief. Everybody say unbelief. Unbelief, Romans.

This is just the appetizer. But good morning, summit church. Good morning.

This is not my message, but. It's an appetizer. Romans 14 and 12. [00:02:00] I could just jot this down. Whatever does not proceed from faith is sin. So sometimes we think of sins as the big sins. Little sins. Adultry getting drunk, getting high fornication. All right. But the Bible says, see, there's no big little sins.

The Bible says whatever is not of faith is sin. The Bible also says whoever knows to do good and does it not to him is sin. So the question is, what is sin? It's simply disobedient disobedience to God. When you hear the word sin, it just sounds sinister, no pun intended, but it's sin. [00:03:00] But you know what?

Whatever's not a faith, it's sin. Okay I'm working backwards to make a big point. All right, now watch this, jot this down. Romans 1423, whatever last part of that verse says, whatever does not proceed from faith is what? Oh, you don't, you're not, ha you don't have it. Just take my word for it until you look it up for yourself.

Whatever does not proceed from faith is sin. Now in

numbers you remember. Some of you know this story if you've been around here a lot. We've, or for a while, I've covered this so many times. In Romans chapter 13, when God told them to go and check out the land, the promised land, which I do give to the children of Israel, he gave it to [00:04:00] them and they went and checked it out and they sent 12 spies.

10 of them came back with what the Bible calls. Evil reports say evil. Evil. Wouldn't you think evil is sin? See, Because they said they couldn't do it. Only two of the spies, Joshua and Caleb, they said that they can, we are well able to possess the land. Let us go up at once. Let's take it.

Come on y'all. But the majority ruled because they saw the giants over there. They all agreed, all 12 agreed that it was a good land. But there's always a but that gets in the way. And the 10 of the 12 came back and said we can't do it because there's giants over there. But God told them they could take it.

You can do whatever God said [00:05:00] you says you can do. Amen. Amen. And the writer of Hebrews sums it up. It says in verse 16 for if I keep backing up, I go to read the whole chapter. Lemme see, verse 14. For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end, as it is said today.

If you will hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion. For just in case you, you're not clear for who were those who heard and yet rebelled. Was it not all those who left Egypt, led by Moses and with whom? Was he provoked for 40 years? Was it not with those who sinned,

those who sin? Whose bodies fell in the wilderness. And to [00:06:00] whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest? Back then, it was a physical rest. Our rest is different In a new covenant as I covered recently, it's a spiritual rest. But whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but those who were disobedient?

You gotta follow this carefully 'cause I wanna make one point, but I'm going roundabout way to, to share this point with you. So we see, to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, but those who were disobedient. So we see the word, those sin sinned. We saw that word right. Rebelled.

Disobedient. What is sin? Disobedience. [00:07:00] Disobedience. So we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief. So all these words are running together. Sinned, rebelled, evil,

unbelief. See they sinned, unbelief, whatever is not a faith is sin.

Unbelief. They had an evil heart of unbelief, so unbelief is sin, right?

You are forgiven of all your sins. Past, present, and future.[00:08:00]

We'll look at a scripture. We've been perfected for all time. We've been one sacrifice was made good for all time, past, present, future. Crash course, right? In order to have time, you gotta have past, present, and future, or you don't have time.

Carla mentioned one and done. When Jesus went to the cross, it was one and done. So we look at first John one, nine in the light. Of all the scriptures, you just can't take one scripture. We confess our sins. People have been riding that for years. I used to do it. Every time I sin, I was in bondage to this man.

I, every time I run the first 1 John 1:9. It's not just physical sins, but the thoughts [00:09:00] that come in your mind that you dwell on and you evil thoughts. And I would, man, I would run the first job one night so many times over and over again. I couldn't even count how many times I run the first job one night thinking that it was for the believer.

I had no idea until I got a revelation of grace that all my sins were forgiven on the cross, one and done past, present, and future by the Lord Jesus. 1 John 1:9 If you confess your sins, he's faithful and just forgive you your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness is for the unbeliever.

That is a sin when you come to Jesus. Alright? That is not for the believer. It's for the believer that the context of one John one, nine is written to a group called Gnostics who didn't believe Jesus came in the flesh. That's why John was going through this discourse that which we have seen, which we've seen with our eyes [00:10:00] and our hands have handled.

He came the word of life and these things are right under you. These are things, before one 1 John 1:9, there's 8, 7, 6, 5, right? So there's verses before that. We just can't take this verse outta context. Yeah. One of the verses he says, these things are right that we, that you may have fellowship with us.

You wouldn't say that to a believer. I wouldn't say to Jireh, Hey, Jireh, I, I wanna say these things to you so you can have fellowship, with the rest of us. And our fellowship is with the Lord Jesus and the Father. You wouldn't say that to a believer 'cause he, he has the same fellowship I have.

I didn't mean to say all of these things but I've covered, I've done teaching on First John one, nine, but you know what, there's still people that are in unbelief regarding that.

Lemme just let this simmer [00:11:00] because I've heard people say I just, I know, but I just ask for forgiveness anyway. Just 'cause I wanna. Let, lemme just say this. It's okay to tell God you're sorry for what you did. We don't, we're not happy when we sin, but to ask him to forgive you, let me ask you a question.

Come to the head of the class. I wanna ask you a question. If I ask God to forgive me, is that sin?

I'm just asking questions. Come to the head of the class now. That is that sin.

Remember the Bible? If I believe that I'm forgiven,[00:12:00]

why would I ask him to forgive me again? Because you still believe. You doing a just in case,

because I don't want to, case this stuff ain't right, pastor, teacher. Now I'm gonna still have some sin. And if you really believe that and you're praying that just in case scripture, right after that, ask him to forgive you.

Because you just sinned 'cause you didn't believe.

That's just appetizer.

Alright. It's just something I've been thinking about. Some people can't handle that, but [00:13:00] it gets you to think, doesn't it? Whatever's not see how I set you up. But see, it's all Bible. Whatever's not a faith is sin. No big sins, little sin, unbelief that God is sin. He called them folks in the wilderness because they didn't believe, and God let them die in the wilderness except for the two that came back with the good report of faith.

If I believe I'm forgiven, I'm not gonna ask him to do what he is already done. All right then. All right. Yes. As Gloria would say, alrightyy, then

let's pack this place out next week. It's Easter. It's some it's the only time some people think about going to church. Tell 'em, Hey you, you don't have to dress. You don't have to go and buy nothing. Just. Put some clothes on. Come on.[00:14:00]

What was the one thing? Just a little review and then we're gonna take off From where we left off last week, what is the one thing that caused the spirit of God to leave Adam and Eve in the garden?

Okay, this is why we keep going over this stuff. Anybody was here last week? What was the only thing that caused the spirit of God to leave Adam and even the garden sin. Okay.

When Jesus said so so what was the one thing that caused Jesus to pray? My God. Why have you forsaken me?

Only time he referred to him up to this point as God. Up to that point, he referred [00:15:00] to God as his father, but he took upon the sin of the world. He never committed any sin. He took upon sin on himself, the sin of mankind. Alright,

what was the only thing that caused Jesus to pray that prayer? My God. Why have you forsaken me? Sin. What is the only thing that will cause the spirit of God to leave you today sin. But what did Jesus do about it? He took it away.

See, that's why we don't pray a prayer like David prayed that was okay for his covenant. When he sinned. He says, do not take your spirit from me. We don't pray that's an old covenant prayer. See, how do we read the new Covenant? Or should we pastor you [00:16:00] saying we should tear the Old Testament out of our Bible?

No. We read the Old Testament, as I say all the time with sunglasses through the lens of the of the cross. We leave we through the lens of Jesus, the Son, cross-eyed. We read it through the lens of the cross. Amen. Amen. And it you see it all totally different. Let ask a qu let me ask you a question, illustrate this point.

Here's a riddle. What has five letters? Sometimes has nine and never has five.

One has four letters, sometimes has nine and never has five.[00:17:00]

What'd you say?

I gave you the answer. What has four letters sometimes has nine said, huh? First time said five. What has five? What has four letters? I'm known to mess up stuff. What has four? What has four letters? So sometimes has nine. Never has five.

What has four letters? WHAT sometimes has SOM nine

and never has.[00:18:00]

You won't be able to unsee that if somebody asks you that again, right? It's all how you look at it. So when it comes to the Old Testament, look at it different. So you can read the same, you can read the same words. Okay. See you. You heard that as a question. Actually was a statement.

See, so I'm not saying that to condemn anybody. I trans full transparency took me a long time to get that. I'm like, huh. But my point is, when you're reading the Old Testament, two people can be reading the same Old Testament. Seeing something totally different.[00:19:00]

If my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face turn from their wicked ways, then only then will I hear from heaven. Soon as a tragedy strikes, somebody's gonna come up with that scripture in Chronicles seven 14. If my people, what America needs to do.

Turn from their wicked way, seek my face. Then only then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sin and heal their land. That is not a new covenant prayer. Our sins already been forgiven. All we need to do come to the cross and receive what he's already done and is one and done sacrifice that is appropriate and appropriate prayer for that covenant.

But not for this new covenant. Now, really, I gotta clear [00:20:00] this up because really what I'm talking about, it seems to have no relation to my copy. And really what I'm talking about is chilling with God. But you cannot chill with God. With a old covenant, old Testament mindset, you cannot 'cause you'll never be able to relax.

You, you don't have to work for his law. You already accepted. You already approved. But when you're trying to work for approval, because see this Old Testament mentality is where you that God responds to you when you. Initiate with good behavior. That is a now. Now write that down.

If you didn't get it this last week, 'cause this is very important and it's not just the 613, there's 613 laws, y'all. [00:21:00] And it's not just those, it's other laws that people add to that. It's like preachers go through this buffet line. And pick what they want. Okay. No lying. I get that one. I'll take the Sabbath, which is a Saturday.

That's old Covenant. No stealing. I'll take that one. You can't pick and choose when it comes to the law. It's all or nothing.

God doesn't grade on a curve. If you're gonna try to keep the whole law, you gotta do the whole thing. And eventually we'll get to that maybe, probably next week. But a law mentality is when God responds, when you initiate with good behavior. That's, that was Old Testament. [00:22:00] It's a it's a mentality of earning.

Achieving. Trying to earn his love, trying to earn his approval, trying to earn his acceptance. It's do more, be more, try harder, be more for God.

See, there's all these little things that people add, but you gotta do more. But they never tell us how much is enough. Ever notice that about religion? It's do more for God. How when is it not? When is he satisfied?

When is he satisfied? I'm gonna do all this stuff. If I sign up for this. When is enough?

See people like like I said before, people they're doing these things. They're adding, it's just a, it's a law mentality. Even if it's not the 613, that's do more achieve for God, try harder. See it's just, it's law with a[00:23:00] little Christian hat on top.

It doesn't work. The old way is not for the day and nobody could make it work. Let's go over these scriptures briefly about our sin. I talked about that. That's the only thing that will cause the spirit of God to depart from you. But he can't and he won't because the sin has been dealt with on the cross.

Behold the Lamb of God. John, we looked at his last week, I believe John 1 29. Yeah, we did. Behold the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. He took it away. So what you asking for forgiveness for?

Huh? I said, huh? He took it away. So you ain't got none.

Pastor you, I did something [00:24:00] last night. Watch this Hebrews 10:14 by a single offering. That's why I may reference to earlier by a what we'll call it. Call one and done. He has perfected for all what's all time his past, his present, his future past you making that up. Where did he, where does he say that he going to forgive all your future?

Lemme ask you this, you tell me. What does it say? He'll forgive all your past sins.

I haven't seen that.

He said for all time, that takes care of it. All the past, what you did last night, present, future.[00:25:00]

I can't stand in Pastor Al talking about all this stuff. You forgive it. You're already forgiven, huh? For that Hate you putting on me. He has a single offering. He is perfected for all time. Those who are being sanctified. Two Corinthians five 19. It was God, personally present in Christ, reconciling and restoring the world.

Say the world. He took away the sins of the whole world. How in the world is America or Europe or Iran or Iraq or whoever, Israel, who, how are they going? To turn from their wicked ways. You can't turn from no wicked way. You gotta [00:26:00] turn to Jesus because he took care of your wicked way because he restored the world, America, Iran, Iraq, Africa, et cetera.

He restored the world to favor with himself through his one and done sacrifice. Watch this. Hold on to your seat, not counting up and holding against men. Pause, who's he talking about? The world. So why are we telling them Old Testament stuff? Turn from your wicked ways and then he's going to forgive you.

He already did. That was on the other side of the cross. He's already restored the whole world, so there's only one message. It's the message of the cross, not change your behavior, [00:27:00] stop drinking and snorting and smoking. That is not the message.

The message is he took all of that. Took all your bad behavior. Oh, hallelujah. Not counting up and holding against men. The world is the context. Their trespasses, but what canceling them, that's what he did. Boy, if you look at this context and I'm not gonna go into the context, but I lemme just tell it to you and you can read it as extra credit.

But this is the Ministry of Reconciliation that God was in Christ. He gave us this passage. This context tells us that he gave us the ministry of reconciliation, and here it is. He gave us this message. This is the message we should be [00:28:00] telling people. And I'm telling you, there's a lot of people who have not heard it.

It saddens me. I was on a conversation with somebody this week. It saddens me People are hurting because they don't understand. They're just trying to do more and more for God and driving themselves crazy,

not holding against the world men, their trespasses, but canceling them and committed to us the message

of reconciliation. Of the restoration to favor. Now, isn't that a different message,

man? We get to wake up every day. To just thank you Jesus. Yes. Just in [00:29:00] awe. Yes. When I think about his goodness, thank you and what he's done for me. I tell you, when you embrace this message, everything changes. Yes.

And but what about when we sin? He took care of that. On the cross.

He remembers them. Soon as you sin, he don't remember it. Hebrews a 12 For I will be merciful toward their iniquities and I will remember their sins. No moss, no more. Glory to God. Hallelujah. Yeah,

the Holy Spirit. We are sealed with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit cannot leave you Ephesians 1:13-14. In [00:30:00] whom, in him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation and believed in him were sealed with the Holy Spirit. Sealed. Next verse. Sealed? No. Oh man. Okay.

Hebrews 1:13. Check this out. Just write it down. You were sealed with the holy, with the promised Holy Spirit. What does, what's the next verse you have there? Then we're gonna go to Hebrews 13. Praise God. For he, God himself has said, I will not in any way fail you nor give you up lot here, but we won't get into all this, but I want you to see one thing.

I will not in any way [00:31:00] fail you, nor give you up, nor leave you without support. I will not. I will not. I will not. The emphasis is there for a reason. Okay. I will not back up verse five. In any degree, leave you helpless, nor forsake you, nor let you down. Relax my hold on you. And surely not he will not in any degree leave you.

He won't leave you. Woo.

But what about when we sin? He remembers them no more. It is. It is washed from your slate soon as you did it.[00:32:00]

So we take comfort and our encouraged. Doesn't this encourage you and confidently, and boldly say, the Lord is my helper. I will not be seized with alarm. When you faced with bad news and all this news, bad news that's going on in the world, you're not gonna be seized with alarm. Gas is $4 a gallon.

I will not be seized with alarm. I will not fear or dread or be terrified. What can man do to me?

That old covenant mentality that I talked about, nobody could ever make it work.

The law was given to bring people to the end of themselves. We're gonna do a deep dive in into the law. I want you to be fully convinced that the law does not work. It's not it. It's not [00:33:00] benign. It's nice, it's not harmless, it's harmful.

Acts 13:39. We'll look at this at probably next week. Bring your folks here so they can hear this message. 'cause I'm telling you, there are people that are hurting. There are people that are unchurched, unsaved sometimes saved, unchurched. They're just tired of getting beat up. I knew a guy who stopped going last, last I checked, he stopped going to church.

He had the keys to the church 'cause he was doing everything nobody else wanted to do. And he got worn out and he turned his keys back in because man, it's just like they keep wanting them to do more and more. Amen. It's not about doing more earning, achieving, trying harder. It's about accepting the finished work.

And [00:34:00] we'll look at this next week it's called the Ministry of Death. Actually, in the context, I'm gonna, I'm gonna show this to you in your Bible that this, the law actually, specifically I told you there's 613 actually. That context when he calls the law, the Ministry of Death and Condemnation, he's specifically talking about the law that was written on stone by the finger of God.

That was the 10. The Big 10 that people think that we should live by today is called the Ministry of Death. It's called the Ministry of the 10 Commandments are called the Ministry of Death and Condemnation

and preaches. Preachers are killing people slowly every week trying to get them to keep the law.

Isn't that something? See we think it's harmless, but it's harmful. The strength of sin, that word strength is dunamis. And the Greek, it says it's the [00:35:00] power of sin is the law.

Yeah. Acts 13:39 and by him, this is Jesus. Everyone who believes they believe that's what makes a whole new covenant work is what? Freed from what Stop whom the sun sets free. Free You free from everything. Yes. Write this down in the Greek and in the Hebrew. You know what everything means?

Everything. What about sin? What about fear?

What about being broke? What about sickness? Yes. Everything freed from everything from [00:36:00]which you could not be free.

By the law of Moses.

Now I believe I can, I have the liberty to say this without disrespecting the scripture.

Watch this from which you could not be freed from anything, which is the opposite of that. Everything. You could not be free by anything. By the law of Moses. Jesus said, come to me all you labor and are heavy laid. The context is, it's the law

I'm gonna give you rest. Rest cannot come from the law.

He said, my yoke. See, that yoke of the law was hard. [00:37:00] Rigid and didn't work for nobody. He said, come to me. He said, my yolk is easy and my burden is light. You're gonna find REST for your souls. Everyone who believes is freed. Another translation says Justified.

You know what justified me declared righteous. A kitty likes this just if I had never done it

'cause Jesus took it. Woo. Which you could not be declared righteous by the law Moses. The law Moses could never make anyone righteous.
